Boris Belkin began playing the violin at the age of six making his first public appearance when he was seven with Kyrill Kondrashin. He studied first at the Central Music School in the Moscow Conservatory with Professors Yankelevich and Andrievsky.

While still being a student he played all over the Soviet Union with the leading national orchestras, and won the First Prize in the Soviet National Competition of violinists in 1973.

In 1974 he emigrated to the West and performed all over the world with many leading orchestras including the Boston Symphony, Cleveland, Berlin Philharmonic, Israel Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh Symphony, Montreal Symphony, Bayerischer Rundfunk, and the major British orchestras.

Boris Belkin has been featured in many television productions: a film biography of Jean Sibelius, playing Sibelius Concerto with the Swedish Radio Orchestra and Ashkenazy; with Bernstein and the New York Philharmonic performing Tchaikovsky Concerto; with Bernstein and the Orchestre National de France playing Ravel's Tzigane; and with Haitink with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra playing Mozart and Paganini No 1.

His first recording, Paganini No 1 with the Israel Philharmonic and Mehta, was highly acclaimed. His other discs for Decca include Tchaikovsky and Sibelius Concertos with the Philharmonia conducted by Ashkenazy, Strauss Concerto with the Berlin Radio (Ashkenazy), Prokofiev Concertos Nos 1 and 2 with the London Philharmonic (Kondrashin and Barshai), Brahms Concerto with the LSO (Fischer).

He has recorded for Denon Prokofiev Concertos with the Zurich Tonhalle (Michael Stern); Sibelius and Bruch Concertos, Shostakovich 1 and Glazunov Concerto with the Royal Philharmonic (Junichi Hirokami); Tchaikovsky Concerto with the London Philharmonic (Isaac Stern); Mozart Concerto in A Major KV219 and Sinfonia Concertante with the Salzburg Chamber Soloists, Brahms Sonatas with Michel Dalberto.

He has collaborated with other conducters such as: Berglund, Chung, Dohnanyi, Dutoit, Fedoseyev, Gelmetti, Herbig, Maazel, Mata, Muti, Ozawa, Rattle, Kurt Sanderling, Temirkanov, Tennstedt, Welser-Most and many others.

In 1997 Isaac Stern invited Mr. Belkin to perform with him at the Miazaki Festival.

His schedule includes concerts in Washington, a tour in Holland, Austria, Germany, Italia, UK, Japan…

Each summer Mr. Belkin gives master classes in Siena, Italia in the famous Accademia Chigiana.

Boris Belkin comienza sus estudios de violín a al edad de seis años, haciendo su primera aparición publica un año más tarde con Kyrill Kondrashin.

Estudió primero en la Escuela Central de Música del Conservatorio de Moscú con los profesores Yankeievitz y Andrievsky.

Mientras realizaba sus estudios tocó por toda la Unión Sovietica con las orquestas nacionales más destacadas, ganando en 1973 el primer premio del Soviet National Competition para violinistas.

Desde que salió de Rusia en 1974, ha actuando por todo el mundo con las mejores orquestas de las que cabe destacar: Boston Symphony, Cleveland, Berlin Philharmonic, Israel Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh Symphony, Montreal Symphony, Bayerischer Rundfunk, y la mayoría de las orquestas Británicas.

Boris Belkin ha tomado parte en numerosas producciones televisivas: una película sobre la biografía de Jean Sibelius, tocando el concierto de Sibelius con la Swedish Radio Orchestra bajo la dirección de Vladimir Ashkenazy; con Bernstein y New York Philharmonic tocando el Concierto de Tchaikovsky; con Bernstein y la Orchestre National de France tocando Tzigane de Ravel; con Haitink y la Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra tocando Mozart y Paganini Concerto No1.

Su primera grabación fue el concierto de Paganini no. 1 con Israel Philarmonic bajo la batuta de Zubin Mehta.

En su agenda incluye conciertos en Washington, una gira por Holanda, Austria, Alemania, Reino Unido, Italia, Japón…

Asimismo cada verano Mr. Belkin imparte clases magistrales en la famosa Academia Chigiana, Siena.
